Jordan Layton is an American multidisciplinary artist who examines the tension between personal identity and collective existence, exploring how capitalist values shape environments and foster alienation. Through photography, video, installation, and performance, Jordan uses natural and manufactured readymades to create visual narratives that challenge perceptions of belonging and community. His research-driven practice navigates binary perspectives—individual versus collective, natural versus constructed—encouraging viewers to question the systems that shape contemporary life.
Jordan earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Utah in 2025, where he deepened his exploration of social and environmental disconnection in the American West. Jordan’s work has been exhibited across the United States and the UK, with notable shows and publications including Communication Arts and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Recent exhibitions, such as anew eden, investigate suburban sprawl and the symbolic role of white vinyl fences as manifestations of control, economic divide, and environmental homogenization.
